Mar Rivera  was born in Mexico City, where she earned a degree in History from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). She is the co-founder of the production company “La memoriosa” and is currently directing and producing her debut feature documentary “Mamá Lulú”, a project that has been selected to participate in development labs, markets, and industry meetings across Latin America, including Pitch Género at “Ventana Sur” (Buenos Aires, Argentina); the Market Application Workshop at “Conecta” (Santiago de Chile, Chile); and Regional Workshops at “Plataforma MX” (Mexico City, Mexico).

In 2025, she was awarded a scriptwriting grant in the storylines category by the Mexican Film Institute (IMCINE).

She began her training in documentary filmmaking in 2018 through workshops, courses, and seminars, where she discovered her passion for reflecting on and rethinking the uses of documentary film. She has collaborated as a writer, archival producer, and historical researcher on various visual and audiovisual projects. She has also worked as a research assistant at academic production centers such as the Instituto Mora and the Department of Historical Studies at the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH).
